NYC Volleyball Academy Club Team FAQs

Our goal is to provide a complete volleyball experience for your athletes and families alike. We promote inclusive participation from all parties and welcome parent support and involvement.

Club Travel volleyball is an amazing experience for boys and girls alike to train and compete in volleyball tournaments at a regional and national level. It is a serious commitment throughout a 7-8 month season with approximately 40 practices, 5 local day tournaments and 5 sleep-away weekend tournaments. The team social experience is just as important and the on-court training and can provide valuable life lessons.

If you are new to club volleyball…welcome! It is an exciting opportunity to develop mental, social and physical skills for your athlete.

Some things to think about and ask about when choosing a volleyball club for your family:

What is the coaching philosophy and experience of the staff?
What is the training and travel commitment?
How is the organization and coordination of the program?

Our philosophy at NYC VBA is that young volleyball players should be well-rounded athletes and be a smart player on the court at all times. We believe that a well-rounded player can contribute effectively to a team’s performance, as well as more fully enjoy the different dimensions of the sport. We will have our younger players provide optional Primary and Secondary Positions during tryouts and our older players provide Primary Positions. However, these positions will not necessarily be the athletes’ only positions throughout a season.

GEVA stands for the Garden Empire Volleyball Association and is the regional volleyball authority of USA Volleyball that governs and promotes volleyball throughout the greater NY area and New Jersey. Our club is a member of GEVA and we will play in local GEVA-sponsored tournaments. For more information, please see http://www.geva.org. AAU stands for Amateur Athletic Union and our club is also a member of AAU. We will play in various AAU sponsored tournaments as well.
